On June 30, 2026, the Government issued Decree 248/2026/ND-CP detailing some provisions of the Law on E-commerce. Accordingly, Clause 1, Article 3 of Decree 248/2026/ND-CP officially stipulates that December 12th of each year is the National E-commerce Day.
Since 2014, Online Friday has been an annual event within the National E-commerce Week organized by the E-commerce Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In 2026, the E-commerce Department will implement a series of events from September to December with the theme "E-commerce without boundaries," including supporting events in the North, Central, and South regions, and the main event BigOFF along with 60 hours of peak shopping in December. The National E-commerce Day (Online Friday 2026) will take place in Hanoi on December 12, 2026.
The annual Online Friday is implemented as a series of events on a national scale, always receiving the attention and support of all provincial and city Departments of Industry and Trade, and businesses nationwide. In 2026, Cao Bang will be the pioneering locality to launch and implement the Online Friday series of events on the evening of October 23, 2026. The event is part of the 2026 E-commerce Application Fair, a livestream promoting typical products of Cao Bang province on digital platforms, organized by the E-commerce Department in coordination with the Cao Bang Provincial Department of Industry and Trade. This is an opportunity to introduce Cao Bang's distinctive products to a wide range of consumers, while supporting local production and business establishments in expanding their customer reach and gradually enhancing brand value in the digital business environment. Alongside these live events are the "Online Friday Zone" shopping space on e-commerce platforms, a series of Mega Livestreams, and "Golden Hour" sessions with no boundaries dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises, OCOP products, typical rural industrial products, and genuine products.

Cao Bang is one of the pioneering localities to launch the Online Friday 2026 event series.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Cao Bang Provincial Department of Industry and Trade, Le Van Dinh, expressed, "In the vibrant atmosphere of the 2026 E-commerce Application Fair, I am honored to officially launch the 2026 Online Shopping Day in the province on behalf of the leadership of the Cao Bang Provincial Department of Industry and Trade."
According to the Director, Cao Bang province currently has 188 OCOP products from 123 entities, including 10 products achieving 4 stars and 178 products achieving 3 stars, belonging to four product groups: food, beverages, handicrafts, and tourism services. Black jelly, rice flour cakes, vermicelli, tea, chestnuts, products made from bamboo poles, etc., are available on Shopee, TikTok Shop, and many other online sales channels; one black jelly production facility in Dong Khe commune alone sells about 60% of its output through digital platforms, supplying between 800 and 1,200 boxes per day during peak season.
“Each order finalized on an e-commerce platform represents not just revenue, but the shift of an entire production system. When farmers who grow bamboo, make vermicelli, and cook jelly can directly sell to consumers nationwide, the added value remains local; when border cooperatives maintain standards, traceability codes, and build digital brands, Cao Bang's goods reach further than even the mountain roads, ” the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade emphasized.
At the launch ceremony for Online Shopping Day 2026, the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade requested that all levels, sectors, localities, and the local business community work together to implement three key contents:
Firstly, businesses, cooperatives, household businesses, and OCOP entities should actively register for booths at the series of events, participate in concentrated promotional programs and Mega Livestream sessions; bring products to e-commerce platforms and digital sales channels, striving to achieve the province's goal of at least 80% of OCOP entities participating in modern sales channels such as supermarkets and e-commerce platforms.
Secondly, the people and consumers in the province responded with concrete actions: shopping online, prioritizing OCOP products, specialty products, and genuine goods from businesses and cooperatives in the province; and at the same time, improving digital consumption skills, being vigilant against counterfeit goods, substandard goods, and online scams.
Thirdly, specialized departments and units, comprehensive service centers, and the People's Committees of communes and wards should focus on guiding and supporting registration for participation, organizing livestreams, and training digital sales skills for producers; strengthening propaganda about the objectives, time, and methods of participation in the series of events so that no good product from Cao Bang is left behind.

Cao Bang being the first locality to launch the Online Friday 2026 event series demonstrates the local government's proactive approach in promoting e-commerce applications and supporting businesses, cooperatives, and OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities in expanding their product markets. Following Cao Bang, other provinces and cities will continue to organize and implement activities in accordance with their specific conditions, contributing to spreading the spirit of "E-commerce without boundaries" to businesses and consumers nationwide.
As the focal point assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement the Online Friday 2026 event series, the E-commerce Department will closely coordinate with localities, relevant units, and e-commerce platforms to organize activities connecting and supporting businesses to participate in digital business, promoting the consumption of Vietnamese goods, and improving safe online shopping skills.
Online Friday 2026 promises to be a nationwide event connecting and promoting e-commerce development, helping to bridge the gap between localities, creating a link between businesses and e-commerce platforms and service providers supporting e-commerce operations. Through this, the series of events will expand market access opportunities, promote linkages between entities in the e-commerce ecosystem, leverage the advantages of each locality, and create momentum for the sustainable development of e-commerce in Vietnam.
